Chapter 7

Chapter 7 discusses the following content delivery mechanisms:

  • Over-the-air broadcasts
  • Cable
  • Satellite
  • Stores and Rentals
  • Mail Order - DVD-by-mail
  • Internet

The over-the-air broadcasts were the first version of broadband. Here's how the radio spectrum is currently divided:

Cable was basically designed to replace the over-the-air broadcasts and can deliver Gbps of digital content. Here's another Chapter 7 graphic that shows the power of cable.

The other delivery methods are growing well, but the most interesting opportunity involves niche content being distributed over the Internet. Content creators can create a their content and reach a worldwide market over teh Internet. Peer-to-peer networks can enable a huge variety of programs to be found and distributed for next to nothing. This is such a great opportunity, that Chapter 8 investigates the online opportunity in great detail.
